What is TAP and why was it built?<\/span><\/h2>\n

The news came just a few weeks ago: <\/span>four years after the work began, TAP has finally come into operation<\/b>. Starting today, therefore, Europe has an additional source of natural gas at its disposal, a very important step towards 2030\u2019s goals for the reduction of CO2 emissions.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

For those who do not know what we are talking about,<\/span> TAP<\/b> – acronym for Trans-Adriatic Pipeline –<\/span> is a gas pipeline that goes from the border between Greece and Turkey to Italy<\/b>, on the Adriatic coast near Lecce. On its long route, TAP crosses Greece, Albania and the Adriatic Sea, opening up the European market to gas from Azerbaijan.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

This new natural gas route is part of the infrastructure complex known as the Southern Gas Corridor<\/b>, a pipeline route connecting the Caspian Sea area to Europe. To understand how impressive this work is, here are some numbers: it is a 3500 km long chain that can transport up to 10 billion m3 of natural gas per year.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
